Holiday stress…winter blues…cabin fever…or just the trials & tribulations of life can get a good person down. Sometimes it doesn’t feel like “the most wonderful time of the year“, so here’s a little info on coping with the crappy times.
The American Art Therapy Association states “making art is healing and life enhancing.” Pfft! We knew that right? So it’s official ladies and gents…if you’re hitting a rough patch, getting your craft-groove on may help! Pour your heart out with loved ones at a little craft party, or create some much needed solitude by creating art on your own. Whatever you need! The simple fact is “…the creative process involved in artistic self-expression helps people to resolve conflicts and problems, develop interpersonal skills, manage behavior, reduce stress, increase self-esteem and self-awareness, and achieve insight.” (Psychology.about.com)
Of course contacting a professional in the health field is
kinda important paramount & highly recommended when you or a loved one can’t seem to get out of those pesky ruts. No shame … that’s just smart. In these cases, you could think of creating art as a tasty little supplement to getting back on track, coupled with the guidance of a healthcare professional!
Remember, as Florence and the Machine state in Shake It Out, “Its hard to dance, with the devil on your back.” So dance, paint, sew, crochet, sing & create! Better times are just around the corner…I promise.
